Who I See
Individual adults, elders, and adolescents, couples and families, including ethically non-monogamous people in all relationship formations.
First Session
We’ll talk about what brings you in, what you hope for, and how you’d like to pace our work. Though I’ll ask you lots of questions, there’s no pressure to tell everything at once.
Sessions and Fees
Most sessions are 60 minutes weekly via secure telehealth. I'm open to discussing shorter or less frequent sessions, based on your needs and goals. I currently accept Aetna and CareFirst. If you wish to pay out of pocket, I can provide superbills to submit to your insurance. Ask me about private pay fees.

Healing Through Connection and Compassion
A trusting relationship is where healing begins. Here you can explore what feels painful or overwhelming at your own pace. I combine deep, empathic listening with many years of mindfulness practice, to help you build compassion for yourself and meet life with clarity and resilience. This was my own path to healing, and it’s what I offer.
I draw on a variety of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic, attachment-based, relational, IFS-informed, and EMDR therapy.
Holding Space for Trauma
Trauma can stem from childhood abuse or neglect, sudden loss, injury or illness, exploitative work conditions, or domestic, community, or institutional violence. My work is trauma-informed and grounded in an understanding of how power and oppression, as well as specific traumatic events, take a toll on our bodies, minds, and communities.
Here, you can say what feels unspeakable elsewhere. We go at your pace, only as far as feels safe. My hope is to help you move toward freedom, for yourself and your communities, rather than just adapting to what has harmed you.
I would be honored to help you cultivate a better relationship with yourself and build a healthier, more fulfilling life. I welcome individuals and couples of all identities and orientations. My LGBTQIA+ clients appreciate that I share the lived experience of being queer and trans. I’m kink and poly/ENM/CNM affirming, so you can bring all of yourself into the room.
Gender-Affirming Letters
Gender-affirming healthcare is medically necessary, and everyone who needs it deserves access. I write letters of support for gender-affirming care for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people in Maryland. Reach out below to learn more.
Meet Liam
I’m Liam, a social worker and psychotherapist. My path to this work has taken me through hospitals, meditation halls, community organizations, and classroom, and each has shaped how I show up for clients.
Clinical roots
I gained clinical experience at the Maryland Center for Gender and Intimacy, Whitman Walker Behavioral Health, and the University of Maryland Law and Social Services Program.
Mindfulness and Zen
I volunteered as a Buddhist hospital chaplain at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City, and trained with the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care. I teach meditation and am a lay monastic, ordained in Zen Peacemakers.
Community and teaching
I served on the board of the TransGender Education Association of Greater DC, and I’ve trained mental health professionals, medical residents, and psychiatric hospital staff in caring for transgender patients. I’ve also taught Continuing Education courses at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, undergraduate courses in literature and literary theory at Hunter College (CUNY) and UC Berkeley, English as a Second Language in Ladakh, India, and community sex education with San Francisco Sex Information.
